In a previous blog post I highlighted what I thought were the reasons for the high profile departures from Southampton so far, and why I thought it wasn’t time to panic just yet.
Since then the expected departure of Dejan Lovren looks set to be quickly followed by that of Calum Chambers, and now even I am starting to question the motives and ability of the club’s board to steer us in the right direction.
The Chambers deal makes little sense. Despite the fee being staggeringly high for a teenager with limited Premier League experience, it is the kind of transfer that completely defies the club’s youth policy, and reeks of ‘cashing in.’
