What should Southampton do with Crystal Palace target Jack Cork?

With two more new faces likely to be in the Southampton squad this weekend, and another hugely popular one rumoured to be departing, Saints fans patience is again being tested.

With Hull City striker Shane Long and Romanian defender Florin Gardos ‘imminently’ though the door at St Mary’s, news broke last night that Jack Cork was on the verge of joining Crystal Palace. This has come as a blow to a large section of the Saints fanbase as Cork is an incredibly popular figure.

With Cork entering the final year of his contract it would seem discussions over a new deal have stalled, with Ronald Koeman unable to give him assurances of his role in the squad. In that situation it is perfectly understandable from Cork’s perspective to look elsewhere in my opinion.

  1. Just because he could leave at the end of next season doesnt mean he should leave saints. If we keep him he will be playing for a new deal. Here or elsewhere. 3m is not enough to justify the risk
